Unity Consciousness And Rugby World Cup

I am opening this post with a message that may surprise blog readers. 

Congratulations to the All Blacks on their hard-fought battle in the Rugby World Cup final. The All Blacks played with only 14 players in the last 50 minutes and lost to South Africa 12:11.

As South African captain Siya Kolisi said afterwards: 'It's not just about the game...' Indeed. The NZ Herald article (above) about the NZ Government congratulating the All Blacks echoes this sentiment.

I was a rugby fan in my teens and twenties, way before rugby became professional. In those days, when the All Blacks (who were mostly farmers) lost in a tightly-fought game - often against South Africa - they received a heroes welcome on their return home. New Zealanders honored the battle not the result.

I commend the New Zealand Government for setting the tone with their prompt positive reaction to this Rugby World Cup result. I hope all New Zealanders will give the All Blacks a heroes welcome when they arrive home. Maybe this is the turning point in New Zealand rugby, when it finally comes full circle, returning to the days of pride in a job well done.

I hope this Rugby World Cup result will inspire people worldwide to embrace unity consciousness. We can enjoy healthy competitive sport, but with smiles, hugs and handshakes afterwards not depression, mourning and recrimination. Sport is played in the higher realms but not for score-keeping and trophies. It is played for camaraderie and the joy of athleticism.
